This song is turning in my head every time I’m on Champs-Élysées. It says you could find whatever and whenever you desire here, in this place. Suchlike paradise on earth.
Did you know by the way that the Champs-Élysées means “Elysian Fields”, which in ancient Greek mythology was a paradise for the heroic people only? Luckily, I do not need to be a Hercules to get here 😊
Hard to believe when I look on it that once the Champs-Élysées were fields and market gardens. It was so until the 1600s when the Tuileries Garden was extended with an avenue of trees… Today it is one of the most famous, attractive, and fourth most expensive places for retail property on earth! You may wonder what it would be like to live in one of these grand buildings? In fact, because of the extremely high rates, only a few people live on the Champs-Élysées. It counts nearly 82 inhabitants. However nearly 100 million people a year walk along this famous street. Rents on the Northside of the avenue are higher than on the opposite side. Can you guess why?
Be it Covid-19 or not, there are still several hundred thousand walkers who would come to survey the Champs-Élysées at the end of the year 2021.
Nearly a million decorative LEDs are traditionally installed on the 400 plane trees of the famous avenue on Christmas. This extraordinary show remains visible until the beginning of the year, to the delight of onlookers. The present mayor of Paris, Mme Anne Hidalgo says about it: "By lighting up for Christmas, the Champs-Élysées embody all the spirit of the end-of-year celebrations and invite every Parisian to experience a moment of fraternal sharing with his friends and relatives”. Sounds proudly great.
So, if you want to take a bath in the shower of stars, sparkling garlands, luminous fireflies, shimmering fir trees, and multicolored balls you this is the right place at this time of the year. And do not forget the Christmas markets in Paris! In total, nearly 150 streets and 70 districts of the capital, from the Champs-Élysées to Arch of the Triumth, Montmartre via the quays of the Seine, Bercy Village, the Place Vendôme or even The Town Hall are animated and illuminated in the Christmas like manner…
The event will take place in a completely pedestrianized avenue, until January 9, 2022.
In one word Paris corresponds fully to its nickname the “city of lights”
I should mention anyway that this year the traditional celebrating of the New year with the animations and fireworks is canceled because of the increasing pandemic situation.
