The best museums of Paris. The reopening 2021
In the section “Les actualités à Paris” I can’t help mentioning the reopening museums and current expositions there. In one of my recent articles, I’ve already talked about the best Parisian museums to reopen in 2021. The time had come.
After several months of closure due to the health crisis, we all are again able to rediscover the museums of the City of Paris in safety. From May 19, you can go there from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Remember to make a reservation though! It is the “must-do” today.
So, this happy and so long-awaited reopening is like a Renaissance for cultural Paris. I and IdeaTourParis could not wait any longer and went to rediscover it once again. To keep you updated, I’ve got a list of the museums that are already waiting for you with the arms open.

There is another thing you have to know. The so-called Hotel Particulier host some of the museums today, like the Carnavalet museum, or the Cognacq ‐ Jay museum for example. Their opulent interior decorations impress once for all, believe me. It is already a great spectacle. Not counting the thousands of objects carefully saved and exposed there.
*Hotel Particulier - it is a grand townhouse, comparable to the British townhouse or mansion. Whereas an ordinary house was built as part of a row, sharing party walls with the houses on either side and directly fronting on a street. Hotel Particulier indeed was often free-standing and, by the 18th century, would always be located entre cour et Jardin – between an entrance court and the garden behind.
With its incredibly reach deco it reminds the royal residence in miniature) Where only the first and most wealthy personas of Paris could permit themselves to live. There are about 400 such mansions masterfully hidden from the envious eyes in Paris. Just for you to have an idea or example of it I’d say the actual residence (thé Élysée Palace) of the president of France. It is one of the most beautiful and luxurious Hotel particular in Paris.
And now, let me invite you to one of those extraordinary buildings. The Carnavalet museum was finally reopened after 4 years of the closure of the renovation. It is the oldest City of Paris museum.
If you love this city and you want to know more about it, it is the right place to go. You’ll start with the days Paris was born, its early years, its youth, becoming an adult. The ups and downs. The past and present.
For over 150 years the museum was continuously enriched with new collections. It is focused on the history, archeology, and memory of Paris. Including photos, prints, paintings, drawings about 580,000 items altogether!
Me personally I was curious to see the results of the renovation too.
It was mainly focused on facades and passageways. The interiors have been restored as well. It had reappeared to be modernized and adapted to the demands of the visitors and their comfort. Several new areas were created; new introductory rooms and workshops for children. All texts were translated into English and Spanish.
For the visitor's joy, the restaurant in the gardens was opened. The view of the garden is gorgeous! You can sip your coffee feeling yourself the resident of the Hotel Particulier! Isn’t it cool!
Another positive moment. I found it much easier to move inside. There is more space. It is easy achieved for the disabled too. It has become more family-friendly. 10 percent of the works displayed have been installed at the child’s height. Digital installations provide additional information on the major historical episodes in Paris. Including the biggest transformations of the city.
What to find and Where?
The origin, 9000-6000 Mesolithic era to the 16th century on the underground level. In the second step, a center for historical, digital, and documentary resources. This area will provide access to the 580,000 items from the collections of several departments (including graphic arts, photographs, historical objects coins, cultural heritage archives, etc).
Today the Carnavalet museum - History of Paris contains 618,000 items dating from prehistory to the present that tell the unique story of the capital. That is a guarantee of enriching intellectual and emotional experience. I can spend hours there.
I highly recommend it! You’ll become a better expert of Paris after!
